Counselor’s Corner - October 17, 2022 Edition
Dear Teachers,
Last week, a 35-year-old male patient laid on the operating table of Rome's Paideia International Hospital. "Under the knife" for a serious brain tumor, the professional musician lay away and fully conscious during the nine-hour surgery. His doctor, Dr. Christian Brogan, an experienced neurosurgeon, knew what was at stake. "Please don't let the surgery impact my musical capabilities," his patient pleaded. And so Brogan, along with his highly specialized 10-member international team, performed the procedure with care.
Using state-of-the art technology, the skillful practitioners made every effort to preserve the areas of their patient's brain that held musical abilities. In order to remove the tumor without harming the neural pathways, the doctors relied on the patient to actively use his musical brain functions. At various times throughout the surgery, the patient used his saxophone to play the theme song from the 1970 movie "Love Story," and the Italian national anthem. This enabled Brogan to map different functions of the brain as he operated, successfully completing the surgery and preserving the patient's musical capabilities!
And you, Teacher, work tirelessly alongside the Heavenly Doctor's work in your classroom as you skillfully minister to students. He relies on you to actively fill your classroom with melody's of love fill the hearts of your students, playing to the tune of academics, social-emotional learning, and relationship mentoring. Through your "operating room," the Soul Surgeon is working on removing sin-tumors so that He can shape student hearts and minds for the kingdom. Thank you for assisting in preserving our students for Him!
Gratefully,
