Counselor’s Corner - Valentine’s Day Issue

Dear Teacher,

Love vibes.  That's all I could think on Monday when I stood in my alma mater's School of Education.  It wasn't that I was the keynote for an educational symposium.  Nor was it the sixty undergraduate and graduates actively listening, engaging, and learning.

No, all the feels came from one thing:  Legacy.  That's right.  Legacy.  Not mine, but his.  You see, this week I had the opportunity to teach where my grandfather taught.  I stood in a university classroom and reflected on his legacy as an educator, administrator, and dean of the School of Education.  And it was his legacy that captured the heart of my college professor and called her to a lifetime of teaching...who then taught me and fostered my call to education...who invited me to engage with future-to-be educators...who will then enthrall the hearts of their students.  The love vibes of my educator grandpa had the domino effect to transcend four generations into a classroom and impact the hearts of students 30 years after his death.

And you, teacher, there in the classroom have that same power.  The love vibes, passion seeds, and learning nuggets you sow today have the power to impact the hearts of your students...who will remember your legacy and carry it with them to their future careers and families...who will pass it onto their roles and influences...who will touch the lives of many in years to come.  Your reach extends well beyond your classroom.  So today, in the post-Valentines mayhem, keep sending those love vibes out and capturing the hearts of students.
