Counselor’s Corner - Easter Edition
Dear Teacher,
Last week I took my eldest daughter to her first professional basketball game. Despite the home team playing a home game in our current state of residence, we felt obligated to root for the Chicago Bulls visiting team. You see, we recently moved from the Windy City, and therefore felt inclined to cheer for the players in red and black jerseys.
Sitting in the stands with my little girl, I looked around at the local fans, all wearing teal. Being that they were our opponents, we took our cues from them. When they yelled "Defense," we screamed "Offense!" When they booed a successful shot, we shouted with delight. When they chanted negatives, we projected positives. Their wish for failure only made us manifest success, a destiny that brought a win by 31 points.
And you, teacher, then in your classroom are always rooting for the underdog student. When they face big obstacles, you give them strategy. When they are discouraged by adults and peers, you shout encouragements. When their self-defeating negative talk kicks in, you kick it out with positive affirmations. You, in your daily private fan-club of your student, lead them to success and victory!
Thank you for championing "the last so that they will be first [Marck 10:31]."
Your counselor-fan,
