Counselor’s Corner Issue 24
Influencers,
Like many of you, I am grateful to have recently received the Covid-19 vaccination. AND, like several of you, I was hit hard! I had a high fever, ached all over, and couldn't get out of bed. To use boxing terminology, that shot left me down for the count.
Can you relate? Have you recently had a "shot" that left you down for the count? Maybe it was a low blow by a parent, or a pot shot by a board member. Or perhaps it's that you've been slugging away at your to-do list without any self-care. Quite possibly it's that you've been slammed downwith anxiety or depression after persevering for so long. Whatever form you "shot" has taken, you may be down for the count.
I recently read an article by Teacher and Lifecoach, Lance Bledsoe, that compared the profession of teaching to the sport of boxing. He writes:
"You're going to take a bunch of shots to the head and body, and you're going to get the breath knocked out of you, and you may get knocked down a time or two. But take heart. This is how you become a boxer teacher. You prepare yourself as best you can, then you go into your classroom and do the best you. can, and when you get knocked down you get up and go right back in."
This week's "Teacher Self-Care" segment features resources from Take Heart and Teach that will fortify and strengthen you as fight till the bell rings.
You've got this!
