Counselor’s Corner Issue 3
Hello, Team!
My husband, Jason, and I go to counseling. Not just when we're in a marital slump, or when we need parenting guidance, or even when we're up against a tough career decision. We go to counseling as apreventative measure. Ever since our dating days, over 15 years ago, we took Proverbs 11:14 literally:
"For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is one through many advisors."
So, for our little Salyers nation of four, we have sought many advisors (five, to be exact). And, no matter the co-pay, despite the initial awkward session or two, we seek out a Christian counselor/therapist who can pour insight and objectivity into our lives on a daily basis, SO THAT when we hit the marital rough patches, disciplinary parental "calls," and the ministry "feelers," we have someone who already knows us and can direct us in a Christ-guided way.
With TEACHER SUPPORT AND CARE a big emphasis of the ILC's 2020-2021 Social-Emotional Initiative, Lori and I regularly ask ourselves how we can provide additional counsel to you on top of your already-established personal mentors, leaders, and administrators. Specifically, in thinking how to craft our October 13th Teachers' Convention, we feel it's important for you to have an opportunity to receive safe and confidentiaL COUNSEL. Thus, following the Plenary Sessions presented by our keynote speaker, Dr. Jean Wright, we have specifically built out time for him to have optional, one-on-one sessions with those of you who would like. These, of course, are between you and Dr. Wright, Clinical Psychologist, and will in no way be shared beyond you two. We hope you will take advantage of "gaining victory from many advisors" through his services and come away with insight and counsel from your time together. To set a "Talk with Doc" session appointment, please sign up between now and Tuesday.
Warmly,
Mindy
