Counselor’s Corner Issue 5
Hi, My Teammates!
Yesterday while mowing my lawn, my daughters discovered an aftermath from the previous night's storm. With the torrential winds and rain that flooded our yard, water had washed down into the neighbor's low, dark window well. When the water dissipated, it left three surprises trapped in the four-foot depth. Standing above, my third and first graders cried, "Mommy, there's three frogs down there! You have to rescue them!"
Grabbing the step ladder from the garage, I carefully climbed over the corrugated metal liner and down into the recess, all the while heading cautions to "not squish the froggies!" Gingerly scooping up all three toads, I dropped them into a Mason jar and handed it up to eagerly awaiting hands. "Mommy, you rescued them!" the girls cried. And then for the next two hours, these delighted little girls took their three toads (George, Rain, and Pinkie) to be pampered in wading pool baths and bedded down to rest for the night in jack-o-lantern "homes."
As I reflect on the "storms" of this school year, I think about how many of you have expressed feeling "flooded" with the inundating adaptations required by Corona-school. With all that you're undergoing and enduring, it's essential to put self-care plans in place so that you don't get stuck in an emotionally low, dark place. However, some of you may already be struggling with anxiety and depression and need a Rescuer. In the midst of all this stress and pressure, my prayer is that you daily seek our Rescuer who eagerly awaits you, takes delight in you, wants to pamper you and bring you rest.
I love how David puts it in Psalm 18:16, 19: "He sent me from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. He brought me out into a broad place. He rescued me, because He delighted in me."
Warmly,
Mindy
