Counselor’s Corner - March 18 Issue

Dear Those of You Running-On-Empty,

It happened last week in the midst of soaring gas prices. Lines formed around the the block from ten local Chicago gas stations anticipating the Great Giveaway. Recognizing a struggling community without jobs, Dr. Willie Wilson promised $200,000 in donated gas starting at 7 a.m. In anticipation of his generosity, cars began to line up at 2 a.m. the night before! As the sun rose, Dr. Willie was at the tanks, topping off each car with fifty dollars worth of gasoline and sending them away full.

Upon hearing the story, my thoughts immediately went to us as educators. Aren't we always running on empty, too? Aren't we "scraping the barrel" with the light indicator on red, hoping to get a fill-up just in the nick of time? Don't we push ourselves to the limit, pouring out from a hollow tank with the hope that creativity and joy will simply flow out?

Unlike last week's drivers, we don't have to hope for a pop-up event. The Great Giveaway is always available to us from our Generous Donor. He beckons us to not wait until the indicator blinks warning. Instead, He calls us for daily refueling in Him. As Romans 15:13 says, "“I pray that God, the source of hope, will FILL you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” Stop in for a fill-up today.

Warmly,
Mindy
