“Insulating and Installing”

Dear Teacher,

Boston Terrier owner, Lisa Mazurek, refused to let any barriers keep her dog from doing what he was good at.  Her pooch, Thor, is absolutely obsessed with water.  However, despite the backyard pool which enables easy summertime swimmer, Thor's family lives in British Columbia, Canada, making pool-side puppery a seasonal sport.  However, Lisa recognized that the pooch's love for swimming was to be celebrated, so she looked around. Spotting their detached garage, the need to repurpose it from storage to poolage became evident.  The conversion of the space included insulation and installing siding where the garage door had once been.  Now, because Lisa celebrates her pooch's 'can-dos,' the dog swims at least twice a day, always in circles- sometimes up to 300 laps!

And you, Teacher, there in your classroom, are observing your students in the same way.  You notice what they're good at.  You make a mental note of what they love to do.  And, despite barriers, you build accommodations to celebrate your students 'can-do.' The result?  Sure, you may still feel that you're swimming in circles, but your students know that you convert and repurpose in order to make education attainable and enjoyable!
