“The Rebuilder”

Dear Teacher,

The mountain cabin where we live is buried deep in the forest and has several large porches to accommodate outside living.  Several times a week, my family enjoys these oases, sitting on the Adirondack chairs or eating at the picnic table.  Recently however, as I've climbed up and down the long staircase to the porch, I've noticed the "soft" board would give under the weight of my foot.  In passing, I've mentioned the area a few times, but disregarded it, putting off the inevitable repair and hoping to get a little more strength out of the rotting board.

Much to my dismay, however, I stepped out onto the porch last week, and my foot shot all the way through!  With the crack of splintering wood, I found myself ankle-deep in...air!  The rotting porch board and fully giving way, after months of warning me of its weakness.

And you, teacher, there in your classroom, are likely noticing areas in which you're getting "soft."  Maybe it's that you're more easily triggered than you used to be.  Possibly, you're more reactive and find yourself in a state of emotional dysregulation.  It could be that you're less productive than ever, constantly in a state of overwhelm.  Whatever it is, you've likely disregarded it, telling yourself that you can get a little more strength out of a weakened area.

And yet, if you're like me, all those ignored watching signs of stress, anxiety, depression, and lowered immunity can cause you to crack and splinter.  With unattended weakened areas, your mental, emotional, and physical health area sure to fully give-way, leaving you 'high-and-dry.'

Today the handymen are here for the porch (see new boards below).  What can you do to schedule repair for you?

"But I will restore you health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord."

~Jeremiah 30:17
