“The Journeyer”

Dear Teacher,

For five consecutive years, Boji has daily taken a 60-kilometer solo journey to the other side of Istanbul.  At 8 o'clock sharp, Boji arrives at the train station, traveling through 29 stations until he disembarks, rushing to catch a connecting bus.  Once the bus reaches its stop, Boji then boards a ferry going in the opposite direction, until he finally arrives to his destination: An island park.

Boji's routine caught the attention of his fellow commuters. He was intently watched as he obediently lay down on the ground, selflessly giving up his seat to passengers of the overly-crowded subway.  "To whom does this dog belong?" they wondered.  Finally, he caught so much attention that the local rescue team investigated, learning that Boji's owner had died two years prior.  And yet, Boji daily travels the route he had once walked with his owner, a living testament to the powerful relationship between him and his beloved master.

And you, teacher, do the daily routines of teaching and skill-building that catch the attention of this around you.  "To whom does these teacher belong?" wonder students and parents.  And yet, it's evidences in the how you conduct yourself and when selflessly give of yourself.  Your journey is a powerful testament to your students and colleagues of the relationship between you and your beloved Master.

Traveling by your side,
Mindy
